How to Change Your MHmicroscopy Password
If Your Know Your Password (and it can be
expired!):
LOCALLY:
At a computer in the facility log on and follow the steps below.
If your password is expired you will be immediately prompted for a new password.
REMOTELY:
On almost any Windows computer (except Windows Home editions) on campus (and off
campus while running VPN connected to SOM or ITS (Onyen) main campus) press and
hold down the Ctrl-Alt-Delete keys. The Windows security box will
appear.

Press the Change Password... button with the mouse (or
press and hold the alt + C keys)

All five entry lines must be changed:
- At User name: Enter your mhmicroscopy account name
- At Log on to: Erase existing, if necessary, & enter MHMICROSCOPY
or 152.19.58.218 (see notes below)
- At Old Password: Enter your current password (it can be expired!)
- New Password: Enter your desired new password
- Confirm New: Enter your desired new password again

Press OK or hit Enter
You will get a message indicating success or failure. This
may take a little time.
Notes:
- Using MHMICROSCOPY at the Log on to: box will work if you are on a
computer at the School of Medicine or at a UNC computer connected to the Sch
of Med. network (WINS), or connected to the Sch. of Medicine VPN.
Otherwise use the i.p. number 152.19.58.218 instead of MHMICROSCOPY.
- Password can not be the same as the previous 12 valid passwords.
If you need to reuse an old password, e.g. in order to keep it consistent
with you Onyen, SOM, or etc. password, please request a password change in person from
facility personnel.
- Yes! You may change your MHmicroscopy password from your lab.
computer.
If You Have Forgotten Your Password or need
further assistance:
Please contact a facility director
in order to have your password manually updated, or to arrange a time to come by
the facility to secretly enter a new password. Please note:
- We can not read/look up your password
- The School of Medicine forbids sending of passwords via e-mail
- Passwords must contain at least a numeral, symbol, an upper case
letter, a lower case letter and be at least 8 characters, and can not be the
same as the 12 previously used passwords. These rules are slightly
different to the Sch. of Med. & ITS password rules.
- After hours password resets may be possible if Michael is available,
near a suitable computer and is awake. Try 843-3268.
