Handling Storage:

• Local Storage:
  • In summary it is best to scan to the E: drive and transfer later to other storage.  This is fastest and most reliable.
  • Please store scans on the E: drive hard disk drive
  • Please do not store data on the C: drive including desktop. Major user data stored on the C: drive will be moved to the E: drive in order to provide maximum temporary storage for the VS120 scanning software.
  • If the E: drive is full then emergency use of the C: or D: drive is OK
  • Scanning directly to an external drive is not recommended since it slows down scanning significantly. 
  • USB thumb drives, especially USB3, tend to overheat, slow down, and even fail to store data when written too at high rates and large volumes.  Its best to store to the E: drive and copy it to a network share or removable USB drive later.
  • Scanning directly to network drives mapped as drive letters is not recommended by Olympus. Data can be corrupted during network slow downs or transient disconnections and server reboots.

    • MHmicroscopy domain account is required for access - ask Michael for one or for password resets
    • \\som-fs.med.unc.edu\cf  (shared, groups & users your AD domain/onyen credentials)
    • \\ad.unc.edu\med\cf  (shared, groups & users your AD domain/onyen credentials)
    • Other shared directories may be available to you. E.g.  \\minsky.med.unc.edu\yourpi-lab, shared or groups on your division/department SOM storage space

• \\minsky file server on the MHmicroscopy domain (if you do not have an account there ask Michael to set one up)
